Taryn Lindhorst


Faculty Affiliate Taryn Lindhorst is an Associate Professor of Social Work at the University of Washington. Prior to receiving her doctorate in 2001, Dr. Lindhorst spent 15 years providing social work services in public health settings in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her research focuses on the intersections between individuals and social institutions, particularly as this relates to issues of violence against women and poverty. Dr. Lindhorst’s work on the effects of welfare reform for battered women has won two national awards, and she has received a Career Development grant from the National Institutes of Health to further her qualitative and quantitative methodological skills in the study of domestic violence and mental health outcomes. Her current projects include longitudinal analysis of the long-term impact of domestic violence on economic and mental health outcomes among adolescent mothers, a policy study of the experiences of battered women who are subject to legal action in the U.S. under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of Child Abduction, and relationship violence among sexual minority youth.
